LIVE REVIEW ::: MOSES GOLD, SOUP KITCHEN, MANCHESTER
Finally, we got to see Moses Gold last night in his debut show in Manchester. Glad to say that the dark, throbbing electro pretty much continues from where he left off with Christian AIDS, though with a quick detour through an effected acapella version of Daniel Johnston’s True Love (tru luv) Will Find You In The End. This then morphed quickly into the gloom-house electronica that we’ve already heard in Luv Sick and ace new track Powder and Blood. If there was any gripes it was that the first half of the set was a little subdued and you’re always going to have problems with effected vocals and volume, but as soon as the beats kicked in a little and Moses left the stage things picked up as he wound his way through the crowd, flicking his glitter drenched quiff back and forth and screaming into the faces of the front row ‘this is your scene’. True dat. A song later and with the guy who has been doing the usual ‘these knobs are really hot’ dance on the electronics leaving the stage Moses remains, stood on the speakers and shouting ‘Nothing lasts forever’ into the mic. Also true. It was the end of the gig. But its definitely made us excited to see what Moses Gold will do next.
Next up we have new band from NY, Glitter Freeze who sound like all the electro bands coming out circa 2002. Time for that electoclash revival anyone?
Got a few little treats today, starting with this new track from Manchester’s Prophets Of Sinnerman. We’ve been digging these guys for a while but they really seem to have stepped things up with this new track Born Savage. Cool stuff.
WE LISTEN TO EVERYTHING AND LIKE ANYTHING IF ITS GOOD.

NEW MUSIC ::: MYKKI BLANCO - WAVVY
This is just a great song with a great video to match. Catty-ass bars are spat over the ever brilliant production from Brenmar as the drag queen / performance artist wonder that Is Mykki Blanco/Michael Quattlebaum shows that this is much more than mere posturing and there’s real substance in the fast snappy beats. More please
NEW MUSIC :: UNICORN KID - NEED U
Love a bit of LOL RAVE (slash) GLO WAVE (slash) SEAPUNK? we do (No?) Well whatever its called presently, Unicorn Kid's hi-energy, glitchy electro is still leading the charge and this new video for track NEED U is as wicked as any of his past triumphs (Boys of Paradise perhaps still our fave tho). The excellent vid features the scottish wiz kid drifting through an Anime and graphic world of dayglo computer games, which reminds us a bit of the film Enter The Void, but alas without Paz de la Huerta rolling around naked at every opportunity…..ah Paz…..anyway ahem….enjoy this until the debut full-length later this year :)
Worse thing about the Lympics: having these jokers on a loop in my head for the last week. Go! Get out! Begone!
Word of advice to aspiring songwriters though; try and write some songs called ‘SILVER’, ‘BRONZE’ & ‘BEST RUNNER UP’ in the next 4 years. Ya’ll be bladdy quids in fam!
NEW MUSIC :: SLIME - CROWN
Loving this new track from SLIME, breathy vocals over lush, glitchy electro which just sounds so effortless. The accompanying video for CROWN is also well good, a beautiful urban fairy tale created by the, ever brilliant, T-Shirt Party’s Cieron Magat which he describes as “…about falling in love in your head with girls you’ve never met. I got aired loads when I was a teenager, haha.” Didn’t we all bro, didn’t we all…
Woah - mash ups! Remember them? All got a bit silly and overdone in the end didnt it? It also seems like a loooong time ago that we were all rushing out to grab semi-white label 7”s with Snoop Dogg Dropping it while its hot over the Cure and the like (that was one of the best ones gyac) But nevertheless we cant help but love this new track which pitches Friends I’m His Girl with Jay-Zs Encore and comes up with something really rather ace. Come back Richard X all is forgiven.
NEW MUSIC :: CATAMARAN - GOTH CREEP
NY producer Catamaran's new track Goth Creep is a groovy mix of thick, chilled beats and shimmering guitars which soundtracks this sleepy Monday morning perfectly. Released as a split 7” (with RUMTUM on the flip) this September on Gold Robot Records. You can also get his full length over at MJMJ Records bandcamp which is equally rad. But with less (no) guitars, making this new release an exciting departure.
LOL Boys new mix for the Fader is perfect for today, it starts with the sound of the seaside (bloody seagulls!) and then goes into a load of chilled out piano grooves that will guide us all into the weekend all lovely-like.

GIG :: CLAWS AND EFFECT, TIGER LOUNGE, MCR :: SAT 28 JULY
Hey guys, remember when we kept going on (and on) about it being rainy and shitty and there being no summer. Well look at it now…too hot isnt it! We’re sweating cobs here at BV HQ. There’s no pleasing some people I guess. Though to be fair if you’re requirements for your evening this Saturday was to go watch 2 amazing new bands for free, with some booty shakin afterwards, I reckon there might be some pleasing of some people. Ace new bands: LASER DREAM EYES & SALFORD MEDIA CITY play from 9-11 and then the dancefloor opens til 2am. Should be a hot one.

And secondly we’ve got this brilliant and fresh tune from LE1F from his recent DARK YORK mixtape. Already somewhat of a game changer in certain circles, with some of the more reactionary members of the rap fraternity declaring that the openly out and proud Khalif Diouf’s WUT signals the end of hip hop. (Or perhaps their joyless, homophobic section of it anyway. Bovvered). Sassy and trill with a fantastic horn refrain its just one of those tunes you know you want to drop when you’re shaking ya tush’s on the dancefloor this weekend. Video is wicked as well.
